AOD Pulse · Website monitoring

Send the signal to the right inbox.

The person who owns the monitoring account is not always the person who fixes the website. Assign verified email contacts to each monitor, and protect account access with optional two-factor authentication.

Custom email contacts

  1. Open your account settings and add a contact’s email address.
  2. The recipient accepts a single-use verification invitation, valid for 24 hours.
  3. After verification, assign that contact to the website monitors they should receive alerts for.
  4. Use a test email to check delivery before relying on the contact for an incident.

An account can have up to ten custom alert contacts. Recipients can opt out, and the owner can remove or change assignments. If the last custom contact disappears, delivery falls back to the account owner. A contact receives alerts only; they do not gain access to the dashboard.

Confirmed outages and recoveries

Pulse checks every minute. By default, all selected locations must fail in two complete consecutive windows to confirm an outage. Recovery requires two complete successful windows. You can change each confirmation count from one to five in Advanced settings. Plan for approximately 2–5 minutes for confirmation and email delivery under normal conditions, rather than an immediate page after the first failure.

Mixed regional results appear as degraded. Missing evidence can produce an unknown result. Read the location guide before assuming a blocked request means a worldwide outage. Email can also be delayed by a receiving provider; verify the destination and check spam filtering during setup.

Push notifications on phones and computers

Pulse can also send outage, reminder, recovery, certificate and heartbeat alerts as push notifications to Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on computers, Android phones, and iPhone or iPad (iOS and iPadOS 16.4 or later). Push uses each browser maker's standard notification service. No extra app or paid add-on is needed, and email alerts continue as before.

  1. In the dashboard, open Account settings, then Push notifications, and enable push on the device you are using. Give it a name and choose which alert types it should receive.
  2. Choose which monitors and heartbeats send push to that device, the same way you assign email contacts.
  3. Use Send test to confirm the notification appears before relying on it.
  4. To add a verified alert contact's phone, send them a device code from Push notifications. They open aodpulse.com/alerts on their device and enter the code. It works once, expires after 24 hours, and gives no access to your account.

iPhone and iPad: push works only from the Home Screen app. In Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and open Pulse from your Home Screen before enabling push. Then open Settings, Notifications, then Pulse (or the name you gave the icon) and choose Immediate Delivery. If Pulse is part of a Scheduled Summary, alerts are held until the next summary time. A Focus mode can also silence them.

Planned maintenance

Schedule and cancel maintenance from each monitor. The checks keep running, but maintenance minutes are labeled separately and excluded from observed uptime and coverage. Existing incidents remain open until normal recovery evidence arrives. Pending alerts are held while maintenance is active and checked again before delivery.

Two-factor authentication for login

Enable optional authenticator-based two-factor authentication in account security settings. Scan the setup QR code or enter the manual key in your authenticator app, then confirm a current code to finish enrollment. Save the recovery codes somewhere private and separate from the device running your authenticator.

Recovery codes provide a way to complete the second step if the authenticator is unavailable. A password reset does not bypass an enabled second factor. Never send your password, setup key, or recovery codes to an alert recipient or include them in a support message.

What is available today?

The launch promotion includes verified custom email contacts, push notifications to phones and computers, and optional two-factor login with five website monitors. Signed webhook alerts (generic JSON, Slack, Discord and Microsoft Teams) are available under Webhooks in the dashboard; see the webhook guide. SMS, shared team logins, and on-call escalation schedules are not currently part of the public service. Compare monitoring tools if those are requirements for your workflow.
